A Weekend That Didn’t Slow Down

This weekend didn’t really start on the weekend.

It started while the work week was still trying to finish itself.

Friday was a rush of its own. Work all day, rush to pick up the little from preschool, head home to swap him for the big, and head straight to his new soccer team to try on uniforms so I could get the sizing right for the uniform order. Then home for some outside time, the kind where everyone enjoys some unwind time in the backyard… before a quick “mommy sandwich” in bed.

Saturday started early with a 7.5 mile long run.

After that came farm chores and a stone delivery for the pergola and outdoor kitchen area we’re, actually the hubby is, building out. Nothing about it seems fast, but it’s starting to take shape in that satisfying way that only projects do.

By the time Saturday really got going, it already felt like we were deep into the weekend.

Mommom took the boys to the beach while my mom and I went to a baby shower, then we made our way to the garden store for the final flowers, soil, and finishing touches for the patio space we’ve been slowly creating at the basement door.

This yard, it’s one of those projects that never really gets “done”. Just better, layer by layer, season by season.

Sunday didn’t slow down either. You could even say that it went faster.

Farm chores first, as always. And I am officially counting down the days until these meat chicks graduate to the chicken tractor, because the feed shed right now is… dirty chaos. They’re drinking gallons of water, spilling half of it, eating nonstop, and somehow managing to turn everything into a damp situation I am no longer emotionally prepared to walk into twice a day.

Then I headed out for a local 5K with my big.

My mom met us there after it was done with my little, it turned into one of those afternoons that feels like summer. Kids running everywhere, adults catching up, sun that was a little hotter than expected, and a kind of easy energy that doesn’t need to be planned to happen.

My big ended up taking 2nd place in his age group, which he will absolutely be talking about until forever. Last night, and then again this morning, he was telling me to call the babysitter, Ms. Ava, to run with him so I could medal in my age group. Each time, I told him that the run was about him and supporting him to do his best so that he could shine. And shine he did.

And somewhere in between all of it, the early runs, the farm chores, the soccer uniforms, the baby shower, the garden store bags, and the race…we just lived a very full stretch of days.

It was busy before it even began.

It didn’t slow down once it started.

And honestly… it was really good.
